Days Full of Good Work

I don't work with my body much any more. Back in the day, I washed windows for living. My body felt that work. Rushing from store front to store front - trying to keep my mind busy while my arms went through the constant dance between wand and squeegee - cleaning and wiping in one fluid stroke. I also used to teach skiing to make a little money and build relationships on the ski mountain in Gatlinburg. To do that job, my body had to be able to function correctly - I had to look like I knew what I was doing on a pair of skis on the snow.

These days - I exercise my emotional and intellectual skills quite often every day in my work as a pastor. Listening. Writing. Speaking. Typing. These are just a few of the skills needed to this this job. Feeling the rush of a tired body after a good day's labor doesn't happen that often. This week I've been balancing the various jobs of saying goodbye - going away parties, finishing business, packing boxes (and boxes and boxes), working on our lawn, calling contractors, keeping up with communication, tying loose ends. Each night has been full of something. At the end of the day, though, I feel I have worked hard at good work. There's a power - a satisfaction - about working hard. Being tired - not the emotional, drained tiredness that often accompanies a busy day as a pastor - but a fall across the bed, feel the strain in your muscles tiredness. It feels good.

Tomorrow, we pack more. Monday, the movers arrive. Thursday - we officially unpack in Habersham County.

Thanks for all who prayed for my mom. She had her dental surgery today. All went very well.

Blessing.
