It's the Monday after Mother's Day and I feel tireder than normal - and completely jazzed! For the last several months at First Baptist, Cornelia - we have been pushing hard. We've had some wonderful Lenten experiences followed by a full Holy Week of worship experiences ... and Mother's Day came quickly.
In the midst of all of these great worship experiences we have been in the call process for a new Associate Pastor, Faith Formation. This weekend John and Jennie Swindler and their family joined us for a whole day of receptions and parties as the church started to get to know them. Yesterday during worship, we heard not only John's faith story - but the whole family's journey of faith. This is what a family in ministry looks like - not perfect, but faithful. The day ended with the FBC calling John Swindler as our first Associate Pastor, Faith Formation. By Sunday afternoon I was exhausted and thrilled over all the ways God has blessed us this Spring.
As I reflect on all of the events and experiences of God's Spirit this Spring at FBC - I am aware God is shaping us into the People God desires us to be so we may be prepared to walk into God's future. Like a tree drawing nourishment up from from the earth as it prepares to push it buds and flowers out to bless the world - so God is preparing us. As a church we are growing deeper in trust with one another and God. As a church we are building spiritual disciplines for faithful service. As a church, we are are exploring missional living. As a church we are extending ourselves for the future - trusting the God who calls us to sustain us.
It has been an exciting Spring - I can't wait for Summer!
Eric
