40 Days of Prayer

I'm excited about FBC's 40 Days of Prayer which begin on Sunday. This church wide event has come together wonderfully. Here are some of the basic parts of the 40 Days:

• 7 Sundays of Prayer themed worship.
• 7 Sundays of Sunday School Curriculum centered on prayer.
• 40 days of a personal prayer journal.
• Prayer Triads (3 people of same gender) meeting throughout the congregation praying for one another. Asked to meet 4 times over the 40 days.
• Corporate Prayer Experiences on Wednesday nights.
• Special Prayer events
• Prayer oriented Faith Stories in Worship
• 40 Days Celebration with Church wide Banquet!

This week I will preach on Simple Prayer working out of Psalm 22. It's a raw and wonderful prayer which we also hear spoken by Jesus on the cross. The challenge facing us as people as we move into a life of prayer is how do we start? When life is tough and busy and we can't quite get it right - how do we start to pray? I hope folks will begin thinking about this as we work our way til Sunday.
