“Let’s pray.”
We hear this invitation to prayer many times throughout our lives – from the pulpit in worship to our Sunday School classes to various small groups to our dining room table. The invitation to prayer surrounds us, but we often miss it. We relinquish the opportunity to someone else or simply bow in reference and miss the power of the moment God has for us.
With this Personal Prayer Journal, let me invite all you into an experience in prayer. For the next 40 days our church will journey together into a life of prayer. For the first two weeks we will focus on prayers which move us inward in reflection of God’s working in our lives. For the second two weeks we will focus on prayers which move us upward in reflection of who God is in our lives. In the final two weeks we will focus on prayers which move us outward in reflection of where God is working in our world. This journey will stretch us all as individuals and as a church as we explore new ways of prayer together.
During these 40 days, you will have many opportunities to experience prayer both personally and with your church family - through worship services, Sunday School classes, personal prayer times, prayer triads and prayer events. The purpose of these 40 Days of Prayer is to prepare our hearts for the presence of Jesus as we experience prayer together. As we prayer together, God will fill our lives in ways we have never thought possible. I do not know all that God will do in us through these days, but I am very excited to see what happens.
As we begin – whether you have been a Follower of Jesus for decades or are still seeking His Way in your life – let me offer you this invitation: “Let’s pray.”
Prayer begins with a simple decision to pray. Do not miss this opportunity. Invite friends and family to experience these exciting days with you. Prayer will surround you in these 40 days; take time to pray. I look forward to hearing all God does in your life as you do.
